About this Job:
Supports the development and delivery to market of disease resistant vegetable varieties (Cucurbitaceae):
Organize and conduct plant pathology screens.
Managing and reporting data and results to stakeholders.
Provide logistical support for Trait and Technology biotic-stress projects.
Assisting with the management and maintenance of the pathology facilities.
Collaboration and communication with Internal and external customers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Organizing and conducting plant pathology screens:
Independently conducts pathology screens for various plant pathogens.
Assists with the development and implementation of new phenotyping protocols.
In collaboration with Site Operations; manage planting, growing, irrigation and fertilization of plants in the greenhouse, growth room and laboratory.
Assists with the management and evaluation of pathology field trials.
Prepare and grow pathogen culture for disease screens.
Assists the Plant Pathologist with identification of fungal, viral and bacterial cultures.
Managing and reporting data and results:
Use established methodologies to collects data from experiments and export into database.
Prepare timely technical reports.
Maintain electronic and visual records of experiments.
Assisting with the management and maintenance of the pathology facilities:
Assist with or is directly responsible for the day-to-day operation of the pathology greenhouses and growth chambers, including plant culture, housekeeping, inventory/ordering of consumables, maintenance of equipment, and pest control.
Assist with the day-to-day operation of the pathology laboratory, including the preparation of biological growth media and stock solutions, housekeeping, ordering of supplies, and maintenance of equipment.
Schedules, manages, and works with 3rd-party contractor workers.
Works in accordance with safety regulations and guidelines.
Interacting with Internal and external customers:
Works cooperatively with Trait &Technology and breeding programs and other on-site personnel.
Schedules and coordinates activities for the pathology program.
BA or BS in a biological or agricultural field with up to five years of working experience in plant pathology. M.Sc. in plant pathology or agronomy with one to two years of experience.
Academic or industry experience working in applied plant pathology.
Familiarity working with Microsoft Office applications and databases.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
At time working conditions may be dirty, dusty, and hot in combination with noisy equipment. Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field or greenhouse. Exposure to high and low temperatures, sun, rain, and dust
