The Regional Farm Safety Manager supports Michael Foods Inc. initiatives for risk reduction, injury prevention, and safety regulatory compliance. This position reports to the Director of Safety and supports strategy for the execution of the overall Company safety process and is responsible for partnering with the MFI Farming Operations to assess the effectiveness of safety policy/protocol efforts and assists with implementation strategies for continuous improvement.

This position serves as the subject matter expert of safety and is responsible for providing functional support of the Safety and Risk Management Process for operations at each farm. This role is responsible for tracking key performance indicators and EHS metrics.


Supports all farm locations and Farm Managers, their staff, and site Safety Leaders to continuously raise performance and to integrate superior practices and high expectations into culture.

Provides visibility of progress, performance, and issues to executive management through:

Conducting and/or assisting with internal and external audits of all farm locations with benchmark scores to ensure execution of company policies (SRMP audit process).

Visit all locations to ensure execution of company policies and safety action planning to ensure compliance with, federal, state and local regulations.

Direct and counsel on activities of Farm Managers and Safety/HR Leaders to ensure compliance with MFI policies, federal, state and local regulations.

Supports the risk assessment process and partners with Engineering on capital budgeting prioritization for safety and loss control projects including a comprehensive insurance strategy to reduce catastrophic risk.

Provides hazard assessment guidance for injury loss prevention, property protection, and business continuity planning efforts.

Assist with the professional development of farm managers and supervisors, monthly calls:

Various hazard recognition skills learning for effective safety inspection execution related to farming activities for improved workplace conditions and behaviors.

Develop and share these techniques with others to develop a team approach for numerous required audits and inspections required in farming operations.

Leads the planning and implementation of training programs necessary to meet safety regulatory requirements and established voluntary safety standards.

Act in an advisory capacity to hourly and salaried employees on matters involving compliance throughout the organization.

Coordinate with the Risk Management team and monitor workers compensation claims along with guidance for difficult or complex case management with claim adjusters.


Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field. In exceptional cases, relevant and extensive work experience may substitute for the degree requirement.

Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience preferably with farm experience and demonstrated professional expertise and accomplishments leading safety change initiatives.

A proven track record of successful results.

Knowledge of local, state and federal safety compliance and regulatory issues, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Ability to travel up to 50% including all locations


OSHA 10 or 30 Hour Training (or equivalent)

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar quality or EHS certifications desired, but not required

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Strong knowledge of QEH&S standards


Excellent interpersonal, influencing, verbal and written communication skills required.

Team player able to build consensus and lead successful teams

Detail orientated, flexible and responsive

Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines

Knowledge of case management procedures and issues relating to workmen’s compensation and other workplace safety issues.

Ability to multi-task, deal with employees with diverse background and good problem solving skills.

Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.

Must be available to provide support for 24/7 Farm Operations, including weekend and off shift hours.
