Kemin’s Specialty Crops Improvement program is a corporate strategic initiative to develop unique botanical sources of novel functional molecules for business unit product development. The Research Agronomist will play an important role in implementing field operations as part of the research agronomy team.

What you’ll be doing:
Participate and execute experimental design, statistical analysis of data.
Participate in development and execution of experimental cropping system strategies.
Work with Research Agronomy Manager to plan and implement annual field plots and production fields.
Operate all farm equipment and train others as needed.
Maintain pesticide spray records for Research Agronomy.
In consultation with Research Agronomy Manager, set up and implement research pesticide trials on Kemin specialty/technology crops.
In coordination with Research Agronomy Manager, apply fertilizer and pesticides inputs to SCI crops and fields.
Attend meetings with outside vendors to provide input for construction of experimental harvesters and other experimental equipment.
Assist in harvest operations to provide raw material to other Kemin business units.
Purchase parts and supplies as needed to maintain farming operations.
Generate and analyze data from field experiments.
Read equipment manuals in order to operate, maintain and repair same.
Other duties as assigned.
What we require of you:
Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, agronomy or similar field with 5 years of experience in nursery or field operations.
Master’s Degree in horticulture, agronomy or similar field with 2 years of related experience.
Self-motivation with excellent problem-solving skills.
Flexibility in hours worked, ability to work outside normal work hours.
Practical experience in growing specialty crops in a field environment.
Have mechanical aptitude and experience with variety of farming equipment.
Demonstrated experience in operating mechanized equipment, including farm tractors.
Excellent cross-functional team leadership skills.
Practical experience with variety of bench and hand tools such as wrenches, grinders, drills, welder, etc.
Excellent communication skills
Proficient in English, multilingual is a plus
Advanced computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
Ability to program and use GPS and electronic spray equipment.
Excellent driving record.
Flexibility in hours worked and availability to handle field operations outside of normal work hours.
A passion for plants and working in a field research environment.
Must have statistics experience.
Positive attitude and resilience in adverse working conditions.
Ability to implement alternative plans based on weather conditions. .
Your work week:This position is based at the Kemin Farm in Kelley, Iowa. Local travel will be required to the Kemin Des Moines headquarters occasionally.
