Purdue University is seeking to fill the position of Director of the Indiana State Climate Office. The Director will conduct and oversee applied climate science research to improve monitoring and understanding of climatological processes and their impacts on agriculture, natural resources and other climate sensitive sectors in Indiana. Utilizing a combination of lab, office and field work, this position will assist in developing decision support tools using climate data including web development technologies, computer programming, and mapping technologies along with statistical and gridded data analysis and manipulation. This role will support the research and extension missions of Purdue Agriculture, with a focus on climate data analysis and visualization. This is a non-tenure track professional management position, located in the Department of Agronomy.
Ph.D. degree in meteorology, climatology or one of the atmospheric sciences Five years' of professional experience in climatology and meteorology which may include applying scientific information to practical problems, QA/QC issues related to both modeled and observed historical climate datasets and engaging with non-scientific audiences with respect to climate data and services (Experience gathered while in pursuit of degree will be considered) Knowledge of field experimental techniques and data analysis using quantitative and statistical methods. Knowledge of computer programming language(s) (e.g., Python, Perl) to manipulate and analyze historical climate datasets including gridded files (e.g., netCDF, binary, GRIB) and point datasets (e.g., Cooperative Network, ASOS/AWOS, CRN). Knowledge of data visualization software/language that utilized climate data (e.g., NCL, HighCharts, GIS) Strong oral, written, organizational and time management skills; a valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license. Additional Information: Purdue will not sponsor an employment based related visa for this position. A background check will be required for employment. FLSA Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime).
