We are seeking to hire a protected culture agronomic research specialist with these core qualities for Monsanto’s Trait & Product Delivery (TPD) team in Marana, Arizona. The Marana site is part of our Plant Breeding Organization and the successful candidates will work directly with scientist from across Monsanto’s research and development division to drive the evolution of our di-haploid and trait integration corn pipelines.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Marana Greenhouse lab space and ensuring successful handling and treatment of seedlings prior to transplant into our full growth environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and passionate individual to join a multidisciplinary team of breeders, agronomists, data scientists, and engineers who work on creative solutions to complex business problems using advanced agronomic solutions, analytics, and cutting-edge automation equipment.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Ensure successful treatment of corn seedlings while meeting all safety and compliance requirements
Coordinate daily actives for individuals operating in the lab space. This includes ensuring that quality and safety standards are followed
Use standard lab practices to prepare treatment solutions
Interact with and provide feedback to upstream and downstream partners to ensure delivery of seed targets.
Maintain effective communications, relationships and collaborations
Actively participate in safety and phytosanitation programs, ensuring compliance with all regulations and protocols.
Attend all relevant training sessions to keep in compliance with regulations.
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in a life sciences discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years industry experience in laboratory or greenhouse teams
Experience preparing solutions using basic laboratory equipment and calculations
Experience supervising workers
Proficient in use of Microsoft office suite
Lab management experience
Experience with automated laboratory or greenhouse systems
Proficiency in usage of IT and analytics tools and their application in field and greenhouse research.
