Freight & Logistics Merchandiser
This is a full time, exempt position.
Dispatching and managing daily truck freight handled out of the Minneapolis office
Provide feedback and advice on overall freight rate trends based on supply/demand, fuel prices, truck freight industry changes, and local factors.
Communicating with other freight, grain, and fertilizer merchandisers about general market conditions and specific freight issues and opportunities
Ability to learn the trade territory and traffic flows
Communicate with origins and destinations to ensure locations are ready to load and receive product
Quote freight rates for our grain and fertilizer divisions as well as for 3 rd party companies
Develop and maintain relationships with every day and seasonal trucking companies
Develop and maintain relationships with country elevators and processors within our trade territories
Cold calling trucking companies to cover loads during peak seasons and to cover unique lanes throughout the year
Cold calling 3 rd parties and brokers during slow seasons to work up new business
Other miscellaneous duties and projects as they arise
Bachelorâ€™s degree in business or agriculture, or equivalent experience, supplemented with one to five yearsâ€™ experience with commodity logistics
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
Skilled in Microsoft Office (primarily word & excel) and ability to learn our dispatch system
Previous experience working with outside customers and vendors
Will need to be accessible after traditional work hours as issues arise.
Strong analytical abilities, initiative and problem solving skills necessary to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
Strong organizational and time-management skills
