Come join our team as a Field Arborist in the Parks and Community Services Department at the City of Kirkland! The City has 59 developed parks, to include waterfront beaches and swimming parks and approximately 20 undeveloped parks.
The Field Arborist provides arboricultural and park operation services for City including: health and risk assessment of trees in parks, city-owned green spaces, and public right-of-way. Coordination, inspection, evaluation, and maintaining of public trees. Performs pruning, planting and removals of trees for public safety. Helps to educate and train crew members on proper arboricultural practices in the field. Maintenance and analysis of tree inventory data; and an ongoing analysis of public tree needs. Knowledge of methods and equipment used in park operations and arboriculture.
Position handles tree related customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints. Follows up and provides customer service.
This position works cooperatively with the City Urban Forester and other City Departments to coordinate city-wide tree management practices, the Urban Forestry Plan, and the Green Kirkland Partnership. Duties could also include tasks associated with Horticulture, Landscapes, Janitorial, Sportsfields, Cemetery, and Support.
Hours of Work Noted
40 hours per week, 7 day a week operation.
Hours may vary 6:30 am to 11:30 pm., Saturdays and Sundays may be a part of the normally scheduled work week.
Exact schedule to be determined.
A two year degree in Horticulture (or related field) or thorough knowledge of and training in tree care and arboriculture, etc.
Three years of professional field work experience in the arboriculture, etc.
Ability to perform site visits, pruning, planting, and tree removals is required.
Valid Washington State Driver's License is required.
Able to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
Must be International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified. Refer to the attached ISA Certified Arborist Summary regarding certification specifics.
Must have flagging card within 90 days of hire.
Must have CDL w/tanker and air brake endorsement within 180 days of hire.
ISA Field Arborist with Municipal Specialist certification and or training. Any TRACE (Tree Risk Assessment Course Exam) certification and or training courses. WSDA Certified Public Applicator.
Working Conditions & Physical Activities
Must be able to climb into and out and operate construction equipment, aerial lift truck, and numerous landscape trucks. Also, will work at heights and on ladders. Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and bulky objects. Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather.
