Agricultural Development Manager£40,000 - £50,000 p/a amazing benefits including a car Manchester city centre with regular UK travelWe're looking for an agricultural development manager to join our team and help take our service to the next level. If you're passionate about agriculture and doing the right thing, we can offer you the chance to develop your career with one of the UK's most forward thinking agriculture teams. As our agricultural development manager at the Co-op, you'll help develop our agricultural strategy and policies. We'll look to you to build amazing relationships with our suppliers and partners, championing the Co-op's ethical, health, welfare and environmental standards. It'll be down to you make sure we live up to those standards by putting the necessary due diligence in place for our food categories.What you'll do:•carry out audits and pull together reports on the performance of our farms and suppliers•motivate and develop a junior agricultural manager; carry out 121s, performance reviews and so on•work closely with the Head of Agriculture on developing a high calibre team and delivering Co-op's agricultural strategy and policy•build and manage relationships with farmers and communities throughout our supply chain; making sure that working environments are looked after and animals are treated fairly•make sure commitments are being adhered to across all our farms and supply chains •document and manage any issues or incidents, raising further where necessary•lead relationships with external bodies such as Red Tractor, the NFU and other non-government organisations to make sure our produce and practices are in line with legislation•link in with social media, marketing and PR teams to manage any stories in the press and safeguard our brand and reputation•represent the Co-op and raise our profile at external forums and events•take the lead on any projects and programmesThis role would suit people who have:•significant commercial experience within the agricultural industry•made solid networks and contacts within the market•been in a strategic role before, developing policy and •a full UK driver's licence and the flexibility to travel regularly across the UK for work•the ability to challenge and influence all kinds of people and build good rapport•worked for a similar large retail business before, this would be helpful•any project management experience, this'd be good too•a relevant qualification or degree – this would be great to have, but proven experience is more important Why Co-op?As a Co-op colleague you'll do work that matters in an organisation where principles are just as important as profits.
