Profile

This position is located in a field location of the Specialty Crops Inspection Division, Specialty Crops Program, Agricultural Marketing Service. The incumbent serves as an assistant engaged in inspection work on fresh and/or processed fruits and vegetables and related products at processing plants, field offices and/or inspection points as well as performing administrative duties related to office functions.,educationRequirements:ARE YOU USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY? \tMakes observations to determine if plant facilities, processing equipment, and personnel are in compliance with Division sanitation requirements and FDA regulations.
\tApplies prescribed laboratory procedures to measure the quantifiable grading factors, and preparing worksheets and summary reports of gradings and inspections.
\tReviews rough draft of various types of inspection certificates to verify completeness of information such as address of applicant, volume of product and other pertinent information to be included in the official certificate.
\tPerforms a variety of general office clerical support functions including receiving and reviewing Time and Attendance reports to determine if entries are appropriate and complete, and inputs data into data base system
\tComposes routine correspondence including memos to inspectors and replies to inquiries from the general public.
\tUtilizes a computer for word processing, program-specific software and related functions, correspondence, and written reports.
,qualifications:In order to qualify for the Agricultural Commodity Technician position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

GS-04
Specialized experience: possess at least one year of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-03 level of the Federal service, performing the following duties: analyzing various agricultural commodities (i.e., food, fruit, and vegetables) to ensure compliance with USDA standards; and assisting with inspecting, testing, and weighing of fruit and vegetable commodities.

OR
Education: successfully completed two academic years of study above high school. Note: You MUST submit supporting academic transcript(s).
OR
Combination: possess a combination of the specialized experience described in above and education as described in above, such that the percentage of required experience plus the percentage of education equals 100%. Note: You MUST submit supporting academic transcript(s).

GS-05
Specialized experience: possess at least one year of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level of the Federal service, performing the following duties: 1) assisting with inspections and mechanical measurements to define the kind and/or class and quality of fruit and/or vegetable related commodities; 2) supporting fruit and/or vegetable laboratory analytical and physical tests, which include sampling, testing, and solutions; 3) defining if plant facilities, processing equipment, and personnel are in compliance with division sanitation requirements and FDA regulations; 4) and utilizing a computer for word processing, program-specific software and related functions, correspondence, and various reports.

OR
Education: possess four (4) years of successfully completed education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree for the required specialized experience. Note: You MUST submit supporting academic transcript(s).
OR
Combination: possess a combination of the specialized experience as described above and successfully completed post-high school education as described above to meet total experience requirements for the GS-5. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcript(s).
