POSITION: Full Time

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
In collaboration and under the supervision of the Supervisor of Parks Landscape Maintenance, the Park Manager – Small Parks is responsible for a number of specific tasks as outlined below under responsibilities.
Maintenance and general appearance of the parks assigned, including building, facilities and grounds.
Keeping grass mowed, shrubs trimmed and general care of all plants in the parks.
Performing and instructing the preventative maintenance on all equipment.
Scheduling maintenance work and procedures and keeping time records as required.
Safety aspects of the buildings and grounds including all walkways, roads, playground equipment, picnic equipment and other facilities. Making regular inspections of all areas.
Reporting and correcting all hazards and undesirable conditions immediately.
Supervising full and part-time workers and volunteers assigned to the maintenance operations of the parks.
Requisition of supplies and equipment required for general maintenance work in the parks.
Making arrangements as required for groups and activities scheduled in the assigned parks.
Maintaining and preparing athletic fields as required.
Preparing an annual budget and keeping an accurate accounting of all expenditures within that budget.
Keeping the grounds free of all debris, checking for vandalism and making immediate reports.
Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the park district safety program.
Performing all other duties as assigned.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, park and recreation management or related field preferred, with at least two years experience. A two year Associate degree in this field and four years experience in park or grounds maintenance work may be considered. Although a degree is preferred, extensive experience in a like position with similar duties and responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
Must have experience in grounds maintenance and operating tractors, mowing equipment and machinery used in grounds maintenance.
Should have experience in using fertilizers and pesticides.
Should have experience in building maintenance and the equipment and materials used in building maintenance.
Supervisory experience required.
A good knowledge of plant material, soil characteristics and their requirements and of preventative maintenance procedures for grounds maintenance equipment.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Insight into good business management practices, personnel management and public relations is necessary.
Must be able to deal promptly and effectively with emergency situations.
Knowledge of pesticides, fertilizers and calibrating equipment is necessary.
Work record that shows reliability, personal integrity, initiative and resourcefulness.

Membership in AFSCME Council 31, Local 3774 will be required.
$34,108 – $65,000 per year.
Must obtain a valid pesticide applicator's license.
Must possess a valid Illinois State driver’s license.
