EmploymentCrossing Launches AgriculturalCrossing, a Niche Board for Agricultural Professionals

October 21, 2008   |  PDF version  PDF version

EmploymentCrossing, the world's largest job board devoted to several disciplines, announced the launch of AgriculturalCrossing on Monday. The site is dedicated to professionals seeking agricultural job openings. Using a proprietary technology, AgriculturalCrossing monitors agricultural jobs featured on other job boards, and displays every agricultural job it can find on the net. The site aims to consolidate every single active agricultural job that is there.

Pasadena, CA — AgriculturalCrossing (www.agriculturalcrossing.com) was recently launched by EmploymentCrossing, the pioneer of niche job boards, to assist agricultural professionals to find jobs in the agricultural industry. The agricultural sector plays a vital role in the world economy and all people's lives. It supplies US and many other countries with a wide variety of food products and non-food products such as fibers, lumber, and nursery items. To aid these agricultural professionals in finding jobs, the agricultural job site scours more than 8,000 job boards and 250,000 employer websites, and aspires to list more and more jobs everyday.

Becoming a farmer generally does not require formal training or credentials. However, knowledge of and expertise in agricultural production are essential to success for prospective farmers. The traditional method for acquiring such knowledge is through growing up on a farm, but this background is becoming less and less common as the percentage of the U.S. population raised on farms continues to dwindle. Other technical agricultural jobs in the sector like that of agricultural scientists require graduation in the field.

Agriculture contributes positively to the nation's foreign trade balance and it remains one of the nation's larger industries in terms of total employment. Additionally, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics, self-employed farmers constituted for about 43% of the industry, which is testimony to the fact that the industry can survive on self-employed people too. But the Bureau also predicts a sharp decline in the agricultural profession over 2006-2016; the employment is expected to decrease by 8%, owing to various market pressures and rising costs in the industry.

''In this market it is extremely hard to get a job, and recruiters typically work with very few companies and mostly with other sectors,'' says Harrison Barnes, founder and CEO of AgriculturalCrossing. ''Job openings that are not widely known or publicized are the easiest jobs to get.''

But, the difficult part is getting started and knowing where to search for jobs from. Since these jobs are not advertised much, it can be difficult to find the right job matching one's interests and requirements. Also, many people are unaware of the right source of jobs and hence have to be content with the rare agricultural jobs posted on some job sites. With its comprehensive list of agricultural job openings, which is updated frequently, AgriculturalCrossing is the ideal place to look for agricultural job openings.

''There are an astonishing number of agricultural job openings out there. We want to find them all,'' says Barnes.

AgriculturalCrossing charges $29.95 a month to view its job-opening research. As part of the site's launch special, however, AgriculturalCrossing is offering a free, seven-day trial to allow job seekers to familiarize themselves with the service.
